Northwest Colorado and southwest Wyoming have an estimated 3 million barrels of oil and 666 billion cubic feet of gas that are recoverable, the United States Geological Survey (USGS) said in a recent assessment. The Phosphoria Total Petroleum System, which has been producing oil and gas since 1920, has pumped a total of 500 million barrels of oil and 2.5 trillion cubic feet of natural gas over the past 100 years, according to the USGS estimates.
