Rising Costs in the UK and Falling Bitumen Demand
After the recent huge HSFO price rise, UK truck price estimations were raised by $ 10.38 per ton. Bitumen demand fell in the UK in 2024’s winter; consumption fell more than 10 % compared to the same period in 2023.
Stable Market in Netherlands and Belgium
Truck prices were considered unchanged at $530- 540 per ton and $525- 535 per ton in Rotterdam and Antwerp, respectively.
Significant Rise of Bitumen Demand in Czech Republic
Czech bitumen demand was up 9,000 tons from January to September 2024 compared to 2023. Almost 356,000 tons of bitumen was consumed from January to September 2024, compared to 347,000 tons from January to September 2023.
Price Surge Across Hungary and Romania
Truck prices in Hungary and Romania, as well as truck export prices to Romania, were evaluated at $10.38 per ton higher due to the latest fuel oil gains, although activity was fragile in the middle of winter.
Experts said that although prices have increased, demand is still low since the weather is too cold to carry out major construction work.
Bitumen production at Pancevo was stopped on 12 January for planned winter maintenance, which will last until early February.
Slow Market in Baltics
Market participants confirmed that production has restarted at Orlen Lietuva’s refinery in Lithuania, but they added that the Baltic market was still slow with few orders.
