Bitumen cargo prices significantly impacted this past week, driven by concerns surrounding global oil demand and the economic fallout from the US’s new import tariffs. These developments dampened optimism in international trade. While cargo prices dropped, most truck rates held firm as seasonal demand slowly ramped up and supply availability remained constrained. In contrast, Rotterdam and Baltic FOB cargoes experienced a jump, with both increasing by $7 to 8 per ton. The FOB Rotterdam HSFO climbed to $30 to $ 35 per ton, and the Baltic reached $20 to $ 25 per ton. Despite these regional tips, bitumen cargo prices dropped by approximately $40 per ton in the week ending 11 April compared to the previous week.
Stability through Funding Doubts in the UK
While UK truck prices remained unchanged at $545 to 563 per ton, market insiders foresee a likely drop in future demand. The reason is a persistent lack of government investment in highway and road development projects.
Demand Rises in France
Truck prices in the north and centre remained steady at $541 to 552 per ton, while the south recorded prices of $530 to 541 per ton.
These values reflected a $16 to 21/ per ton decrease from early April, as April’s monthly price followed March’s levels.
